Just out for a drive. Peter at our local Touch-a-truck event OR should we say "drive a truck".

08.28.09

For Dave's Birthday we bought tickets to the Nascar Truck Race today. We got there early and got to see the ARCA race too. It was a great night and the race was fun. We saw lots of trucks - I think they had all the Chicagoland area Toyota Tundra trucks there before the Pre-Race. All in all it was a fun night and the winner was Kyle Busch - which no one likes, but I thought it was pretty cool to watch him come from 7th place when there was about 30 or so laps to go.
Wow!! What a fun time!! Except the 30 minute wait to get out of the parking lot. Oh well that's part of going to a race. I think Dave enjoyed it. I know he has looked forward to it since I said we could go about a month ago.

Your opinion wanted

I have changed my blog a bit and wondered what you think. Mainly I am trying to decide if I like bigger pictures that don't get bigger when you click on them or smaller pictures that you can see more details in when you click on them. Please let me know what you like better. (THe larger pictures won't be as nice to download if you do that, but you can always ask me to send you the original file and I can do that to.)

(OH, yeah I'm fixing the top in the next couple of days - I just haven't had a chance to fix it yet.)

Anyway, leave a comment if you get a chance.

I have been trying for weeks to catch these two birds in a picture. I never have the camera close or when I get near the window they fly away. Usually they are pecking the seeds out of our Sunflowers, but today the pictures I took of them weren't that good and then they moved over to my weeds and wala!! I was able to get a great picture of both of the birds together. We have determined they are American Goldfinch. The bright yellow is the male and the brown one is the female. I think I will plant sunflowers again so I can get them back next year.

After aerobics the kids decided that they would go puddle jumping. Of course we only had the parking lot puddles. But they were able to all get soaking wet. I love the disgusted look on Helen's face.

Today is Dave's 40th Birthday!

I love this man!! He is my everything!!

I wish I could put into words what Dave means to me. He is always there for me and supports me. He is a kind and gentle man. He makes my life complete!! I don't know what I would do without him. He helps me to be the best I can be. If that is cheesy- so be it!

I love you sweetheart!! I hope you enjoy your birthday!!

Here is Kirsten in the twirly skirt I made her yesterday from a couple of remnants that I bought for under $4. I finished my final quilt for the RS and wanted something fun and cute to make. This came to mind and I found a pattern online and away we went. I had to redo part of it because I had read one of my measurements wrong. I noticed today that it was a bit wide on the waist. I think I will wait until it is washed before I undo that part. You can't see it but the blue is a cotton with sparkles in it. I think it turned out pretty cute, I have plans to make another one similar with different fabrics.

Don't you think she looks all grown up? A week from tomorrow she starts Preschool 5 days a week. I have mixed feelings about it but know it is a good thing.

Here is the final quilt I made for our RS project.

Kirsten's new treat of choice. I bought some at Sam's club for our Block party and now I have way too many and Kirsten thinks she should have one once or twice a day. Oh well I guess I better start saving for the dentists bills.

This is what I got out of my friends scraps last night at our sewing class. I had an idea and didn't really want to go to the store to buy anything. Now I have my work cut out for me (pun intended.) I am working on completing the last quilt that I am going too make for the RS quilt donation. After that I can do my stuff. I will post what I make when I get it done.
(I also did a little fabric shopping today and got fabric for Kirsten's costume. She wants to be Cinderella. Of course she wonders why it isn't done when we get home. Patience is a virtue that Kirsten doesn't have right now.)

I hate it when my kids get shots. But today they were both troopers and only slightly flinched and then it was all over. I think Kirsten was more excited about getting the flashy bandaid then anything the poke would do. (That's good since she has to get two more next year.)
She has been a real trooper this last couple of days with both the eye doctor and the pediatrician. I am glad she is willing to go and has been cooperative with the docs.

This is what we saw in the Home Depot parking lot today when we went to Sam's Club for an eye appointment for Kirsten. Of course Peter couldn't keep his eye off of it. He walked sideways to the store.

Aftermath of the block party. I hate having to clean up after a party, it seems to go on and on for days afterwards. Plus it is Sunday and I use that as my excuse not to clean up too much today.

08.15.09

We had our Block Party today complete with a fire truck, ambulance and police car. Of course they didn't come to rescue anyone, they came because we asked them to. I thought Dave was taking pictures of the fire truck and he thought I had taken pictures of the fire truck and so in turn we have NO pictures of the fire truck, oh well they came anyway.
We had maybe 10 to 15 families show up and we had food, fun and lots of getting to know each other. I guess they haven't had a block party for sooo many years that everyone was so glad we did one. I kind of laughed because to put it together wasn't really all that tough and in turn I got to know my neighbors a little better. I think we ought to do it again next year.

Here is the 9 patch quilt I have been working on. It is only 40 x40 inches. I thought I better try it out on a baby quilt. Anyway I could tell you all that is wrong with it but instead I will tell you how cute it turned out and how I really like how it looks. I made it from scraps in my sewing collection and also remnants from Kirsten's quilt and curtains. It is so bright and cheery! It makes me smile!

08.12.09

I've found a new hobby.

We went on a walk this morning and I didn't forget the camera. All of these flowers were found on my walk around the lakes. Aren't they beautiful? The kids thought it was rather fun, they got to throw sticks in the water while they waited.

Running Errands.
It sure is amazing what you can find at Sam's club. He doesn't come potty trained and requires constant food. But I couldn't resist that smile!!!!

Peter reading his "guriptures". Doesn't he look all studious?

I gave him a haircut today and it was a missionary cut. I cut all his cute blond hair off. I was afraid it was going to be a fight and so I turned on Thomas the Train and set the clippers on a very short cut. Figured if I cut it short it would last longer and I wouldn't have to do it again for awhile. Needless to say, Peter was a saint and about halfway through I was a bit disappointed that I cut it so short. Oh, well it will grow back.

WHY DO I BLOG?
I read a blog the other day that asked this question. She went into all these reasons why we should be blogging, but it made me think as I updated my family blog today, why do I blog?
1. To update both my family and Dave's family on what is going on here in the Anderson household.
2. To share pictures with my family.
3. To share a glimpse of my life with friends and family.
4. For the Project 365, I am using it as a family history sight. To keep track of what has happened in the last year, eventually to put it in a photo album.
5. Because I think people might be interested in what I have to say.
6. Because my kids grandparents live 1400 miles away and they should be able to see pictures and glimpses of what is going on in their grandkids lives.

Our lives are pretty boring but you keep coming back to see what we are doing . . . :) Is that a reason?

I've been working on the Railroad. . . I love watching Peter figure out how to put his train set together. It was an awesome purchase at a garage sale and today he was working on putting it together. Funny thing is that he kind of "paints himself into a corner" by building the track toward the fireplace rather then away. He's getting pretty good at putting the pieces together.

Instructions on Cutting Paper:

First Peter works really hard using both hands to cut a small slit in the paper.

Once he is done he looks up and smiles.

Then flings his head back and laughs really hard.

I have been surfing the Internet looking for a quilt to try with the scraps I have left over from making quilts. I found two different quilts I want to try and they both start with a nine patch. This one is a pretty cool one that makes it look like I have worked all day piecing together all the squares but as you see I started with a 9 patch and then abracadabra you have a beautiful pieced quilt. The other quilt is a smaller nine patch and it is not shown here. I have sewing class tomorrow and it gets me in the mood to pull out my sewing machine and try something new. I still have much to do with this one but I wanted to show how cool it was.
